Claire Gilliver

Fellow (FwSS)

Claire Gilliver BA(hons) FwSS T heads both The Brighton and The London Branches of The Shiatsu College. She is a Fellow of The Shiatsu Society UK, and qualified as a Professional Shiatsu Practitioner in 2007. She has a thriving Shiatsu practice in Brighton; specialising in psychological and emotional health. She also runs a Shiatsu clinic & Qigong classes at ‘Southdown’s Housing Trust, Mental Health Hub’ (previously the NHS) since 2007; dedicated to taking Shiatsu out into the community. Her passion for teaching, qualifying in 2020, arrives from her ability to make life in the classroom accessible and enjoyable for all. Her teaching style and humour, with a background in Fine Art & Design, brings the theory side of the course to life and opens up student’s potential.  Claire is also a qualified Qigong Teacher, and brings this meditative movement for health & ancient ‘art form’ of exercise into the classroom and workshops, as a teaching tool. She also holds Qigong classes.

Doe Warnes

Fellow (FwSS)

I have been a member of the Shiatsu Society since 1989. I trained with The British School of Shiatsu (BSS, London) in 1987 and have been practising ever since. The philosophy behind shiatsu and its holistic approach to the body/mind has always fascinated me and continues to do so.  Over the last 40 years I have explored many therapeutic modalities that have become part of my practise and treatment i.e.Dance/Movement therapy, BodyMind Centreing and various forms of healing. I have been teaching for over 20 years and taught shiatsu at the BSS for 15 of those. My other passion is anatomy and physiology and I currently teach this with an integrative and experiential approach.

I've been working as a Zen-Shiatsu therapist since 2002, and work in the Lune valley, on campus at Lancaster University and make home visits locally.Shiatsu gives my patients the space and time to be listened to, a chance to feel welcomed and supported, and encouragement to accept and change. I am forever surprised at how Shiatsu can be so simple and yet so profound and feel blessed to be able to share Shiatsu with people along their health journeys.   I teach Tai Chi and Chi Kung (Qigong) in Brookhouse, and follow healthcare research, particularly anxiety, stress and depression.

Darren McCarthy

Fellow (FwSS)

I have been a member of the Shiatsu Society since March 2002, but my journey into Complementary Therapies started in 1991 when I first started training in Masssage. By 1993 I had also quaified in Aromatherapy, Advanced Aromatherapy and Reflexology and embarked in clinical practice. In 1998 I started working with in residential care homes and with Adults with Learning Disablilites (this developed into a a still flourishing business). Wanting to further my knowledge I started studying Shiatsu under the tutelage of Annie Cryer at the Shiatsu College Hastings.

Basti Deans

Fellow (FwSS)

Basti Deans has been a member of the Shiatsu Society since April 2006 after starting his training in 2004.  He enjoys meeting and working with all types of people and has worked with many things he never expected since starting practice in 2007. At the core of his perspective is an overarching Love (Big Love) and sense of allowing things to be as they may be; there is no personal judgement, no blame, no requirements; just happy to work and explore and play, with great respect of course.
