I often work with people experiencing overwhelming stress, anxiety and trauma. These have evolved into areas of specialisms based on my own health challenges and the kinds of people who are drawn to receiving Shiatsu with me.
Six months voluntary work for ChangeGrowLive, a social change charity in the UK gave me in-depth experience of working with complex issues involving mental health, trauma and substance misuse recovery.
I ran a community project in a community space in south London for 4 months in 2019, bringing together new practitioners in a supportive space to share their skills. Each Practitioner decided their rate based on what felt good for them and what was affordable for people in the area who wouldn't usually access holistic treatments.
I brought SJA Holistics practice overseas to Joa in January 2020 where she set up in a boutique resort minutes from one of Goa's famous sandy beaches. She also offers sessions from her home and online.
As the only Practitioner in the area, she spent two years of the pandemic in a kind of 'international quarantine' in India, developing self-Shiatsu techniques for treating onself. She was the only Shiatsu Practitioner in the area and her mind and body were desperate for the calming qualities that are so unique to Shiatsu. This helped her manage the ongoing uncertainty of the pandemic and being thousands of miles from her friends and family.
