Shiatsu Society (UK)

Partner organisations

The Shiatsu Society was first established in 1981 and our Society stands at the heart of Shiatsu. The Shiatsu Society guarantees professional standards through our procedures and Accredited Registers recognise the Shiatsu Society as the organisation which provides “quality assurance” on standards of training and practice in Shiatsu.

Being an intrinsic part of the Shiatsu network (and the largest professional association in the UK) means we are internationally respected and recognised. Below you’ll find information on some of the organisations we work with.

CNHCComplementary & Natural Healthcare Council, provides a UK Register of Complementary Health practitioners.  They are a voluntary Regulator acting in the public interest and are the only organisation set up with Government support for this purpose. As the leading professional Shiatsu organisation, the Shiatsu Society works with the CNHC acting as a Verifying Organisation (VO) on their behalf. We check the details of practitioners' training, insurance and experience and confirm to the CNHC that our members are eligible for CNHC registration. The Shiatsu Society is the only Shiatsu organisation in the UK to do this.

If you are a Shiatsu Society (UK) member and wish to appear on the CHNC accredited register please login to the Members Area and go to the CNHC page.

The All-Party Parliamentary Group for Integrated Healthcare  PGIH (currently chaired by the Tory MP David Tredinnick) was founded in 1992.  Its overriding aim is to bring about improvements in patient care. Its aim is to work towards an integrated health service, which takes the best from the orthodox and the complementary, to ensure best quality care for patients. SSUK is a member of the PGIH, attending regular meetings.

Shiatsu Schools across the UK – SSUK works with Shiatsu Schools across the UK to provide a benchmark for training in Shiatsu. You can find information about Shiatsu schools across the UK here.

International schools – one of our new focuses is for the Society to respond to the increasing proportion of members who wish to practice outside of the UK and vice versa. We are keen to make connections with international schools to facilitate the accreditation of professional membership. If you manage an international school and are interested in linking up, please get in touch.

Balens Insurance BrokersBalens are specialist Insurance Brokers for Health & Wellbeing Professionals. Our annual membership includes automatic professional indemnity insurance insurance for 2nd & 3rd  year student advanced members and all our professional members.

Grassroots Shiatsu groups – We work with grassroot Shiatsu groups to provide a supportive environment for graduates to practice Shiatsu, helping to raise awareness of the benefits of Shiatsu in local communities.

Specialist equipment providers – Members of the Shiatsu society receive exclusive discounts from a number of quality specialist equipment providers and publications.

As a member-focused organisation we are keen to make new connections to benefit our members and seek opportunities to collaborate locally, nationally and internationally. We would like to make links with other Shiatsu Associations to share information, resources and work together to spread the word about the benefits of Shiatsu.

If you feel you could help with this, and /or work for an organisation that shares these values please get in touch, we’d love to hear from you.
