Become a Wellbeing Practitioner

Do you have a passion for holistic therapies and an interest in East Asian philosophy and medicine?

If you love holding space for others while promoting a sense of growth and holistic personal development, becoming a Wellbeing Practitioner may just be the right choice for you!

A fully certified Shiatsu practitioner goes through a rigorous process of personal and professional development that takes 3 years (approx. 1000 hours) to complete. If the Professional Diploma is not a suitable fit for you at this time, there is an alternative!

Becoming a Wellbeing Practitioner allows you to offer a specific type of treatment that is based on the principles, philosophy and techniques of Shiatsu but is practised for wellbeing and not aimed at treating problematic conditions.

The purpose of this qualification is to provide practitioners with the option to use their skills and knowledge after the first year of study, which covers Shiatsu core theory, anatomy & physiology, practice management and ethics.

Various Shiatsu schools across the UK offer this option, under a variety of names, which include:

  • Certificate in Holistic Acupressure
  • Certificate in Acupressure for Health & Wellbeing
  • Bodywork for Wellbeing Mentor

The certification offers two flexible options for practice. Once you complete a ratified 1-year training course and wish to start practising, this level of qualification allows you to offer certain forms of treatment that promote a holistic sense of wellbeing.

You then have the option to remain a Wellbeing Practitioner or to continue your studies towards the Professional Diploma. As such, it is an incredibly flexible way of approaching your learning - it allows you to explore Shiatsu as a profession without having to commit to the 3 year course from the beginning.

To support this process, the Shiatsu Society UK offers a dedicated listing and membership option for those eligible to become certified Wellbeing Practitioners.
