Established in 1981, the Shiatsu Society partners with a number of value-aligned external organisations. Each of these partnerships is essential for our mission to promote and support the highest standards of Shiatsu across all communities. Here are just a few of the local and international organisations we work with.
Shiatsu Society Partners
CNHC
The Complementary & Natural Healthcare Council is a voluntary Regulator acting in the public interest and is the only organisation set up with Government support for this purpose. They provide a UK Register of Complementary Health practitioners. The Shiatsu Society is the only Shiatsu organisation in the UK that works with the CNHC by acting as a Verifying Organisation (VO) on their behalf. We check the details of a practitioners' training, insurance and experience and confirm to the CNHC that our members are eligible for CNHC registration.
RCCM
The Research Council for Complementary Medicine (RCCM) aims to be the UK's leading authority on TCIM (Traditional Complementary and Integrative Medicine) research. They focus on promoting high quality research that will provide access to safe and effective complementary medicine for patients within the National Health Service (NHS) in the UK to improve wellbeing and enhance the quality of life for their patients.
The Shiatsu Society works closely with RCCM to facilitate information sharing and research-focused events which can assist in Complementary Alternative Medicine (CAM) research.

IHC
The Integrated Healthcare Collaborative (IHC) brings together professional associations and stakeholders within complementary, traditional and natural healthcare to work together to increase access to these therapies, promote greater integration with conventional Western medicine, and improve patient outcomes.
The Shiatsu Society works closely with the IHC to establish Shiatsu as an officially recognised form of therapeutic bodywork and to ensure that all members are recognised as essential healthcare workers in the promotion of positive health and wellbeing.

Shiatsu Schools
Shiatsu Schools are the foundation of the Shiatsu community. We hold a register of over 20 Shiatsu Schools across the country that have either fully met the Shiatsu Society's quality assurance standards for providing professional training or are working towards ratification.
Many of these schools offer CPD (Continuing Professional Development) for qualified Shiatsu practitioners and graduates. We work closely with each of them to ensure the highest standards of Shiatsu practice across all communities.
