June is Shiatsu Awareness Month. This year during the campaign, practitioners are sharing what Shiatsu means to them - how it fits into their lives and connects them to themselves, other people and the world around them.
Shiatsu can be life changing, providing you with a self-care toolkit and changing your world view by giving you the space to explore what is really important.
We invite you to find out more about this powerfully nurturing practice by joining in an event near you. Come and experience Shiatsu, talk to a practitioner, ask questions, try out some mindful movement. It has much in common with other things such as yoga, reiki, reflexology and acupressure.
"As giver, I love the simplicity of having my entire focus on someone else and not me. As a receiver, I feel connected and cherished by the giver's touch. It is deeply releasing."
The techniques of Shiatsu – pressure on acupoints, gentle stretches, palming on muscles – need no special equipment or materials, just sensitive hands and compassionate intention. The powerful touch-based techniques can help us feel more at home in our minds and bodies.
"Shiatsu connects me to the whole of myself"
We can receive Shiatsu from qualified practitioners, or we can learn Shiatsu-based self-help techniques in community classes.
Give yourself the gift of receiving or learning simple Shiatsu this June in Shiatsu Awareness Month.

International Shiatsu Day
Sunday, June 9th
Let's celebrate International Shiatsu Day together
The day is open to any initiative regarding Shiatsu and can be carried out by anyone: organisations, associations, schools, groups, individuals and private individuals. A collective moment to express and promote, each in his own way and with his own sensitivity, the values and benefits of this discipline, creating creative events to bring it among the people. The initiative is apolitical and non-partisan and goes beyond any acronym or style: there are no boundaries when it comes to vitality. By meeting in Shiatsu you can share paths and values that cancel out any distance and difference.
This year's focus is on “Shiatsu as a message of Peace”; each encounter between practitioner and receiver is unique and involves deep listening, acceptance, gentleness, true dialogue….all qualities that our society is badly needing at the moment!
Post any contribution (a photo, a sentence, a short video) of the activity you organized with the hashtag # international shiatsuday. It is a way to give greater visibility to our profession, to inform that the Shiatsu population includes a large number of professionals who can be relied on to recover resources and vitality.
If you want to do your part and create this “Shiatsu Wave” please visit the International Shiatsu Day website.

Yoga Assisting workshop HEALING HANDS - Laura Davison FwSS & Charlie Grange MrSS
Saturday 29th June 10am-12pm at Love Yoga, 42 Union Terrace, Aberdeen.
£20
June is International Shiatsu month, and so to celebrate Laura and Charlie are fusing the transformative power of Yoga with the ancient art of Shiatsu. It is known that yoga aims to move prana around the body to support health and well-being. Similarly, Shiatsu, which is a Japanese style of massage, uses the concepts of Traditional Chinese Medicine such as acupressure points to move Qi. Combining these Eastern ideas, this workshop will show you ways to ground and support one another in yoga poses, whilst using Shiatsu principles to work deeper into the energetics of the practice. As well as being a fun and playful experience, learning yoga assists can help develop a greater understanding of alignment, an appreciation of anatomy and the deeper potentials of different asana (postures). In addition, working with other people helps to foster trust, good communication and heartfelt connection.
This workshop is for anyone with an interest in Shiatsu or Yoga practice - it’s not just for yoga teachers!
