I am the Director of the School for Experiential Education in the UK. I started studying Shiatsu in 1973 as part of my Aikido training and have always been interested in how people can become aware of their own patterns through movement and interoception.  In the 1980s I worked with physically disabled children and developed a style of work that focused on developing from areas of ability rather than trying to cure problems. This eventually became a recognised form called Movement Shiatsu.  It is an interactive style that empowers clients to explore themselves through guided movement and to work on their own energetic patterns rather than depending passively on the therapist to treat them.

On the way to forming Movement Shiatsu I studied and was inspired by many other modalities and teachers. I studied  Body-Mind Centering with Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen, Wolfson Voicework and Voice Therapy with Derek Gale, I taught in a Gestalt Therapy training programme in Scotland and developed a self-practice form called Inner Qigong.  My wife, Teresa and I teach postgraduate courses in 10 countries worldwide, showing therapists how to incorporate guided exploration into their Shiatsu.
