Our commitment to promoting and supporting the highest standards of Shiatsu practice includes rigorous checks via the various Quality Assurance systems we have in place. These ensure that all Shiatsu Society practitioners listed on our Registers are properly qualified, hold professional-level insurance for practice, and undertake annual Continuing Professional Development.
In February 2026, we launched a brand-new version of the Practitioner Register which allows you to find the right practitioner for you based on location, speciality, modalities, background or experience.
Shiatsu Society Practitioners are:
- Qualified - they complete a minimum of 1000-hours of professional practice and study. They gain knowledge and understanding of the theories and philosophies of East Asian Medicine and Shiatsu, studies Shiatsu techniques, anatomy, physiology and pathology.
- Insured - they hold professional public liability insurance. They trained and insured to work with people experiencing a range of health conditions as well as providing Shiatsu for general health and wellbeing.
- Responsible - they adhere to our Professional Code of Conduct and Ethics has 23 pillars, ensuring safe practice, equal opportunities, consent, confidentiality, and high standards of professional conduct.
- Dedicated - they undertake Continuous Professional Development (CPD) which ensures they are always developing their expertise, knowledge and practice.
Practitioners have the initials MrSS (Member), SrSS (Senior Member) or FwSS (Fellow) to indicate their experience level. Find a practitioner here.
Choose from one of our two registers!
We hold two registers of practitioners based on experience and training levels.
- Professional Shiatsu Practitioners includes all practitioners who have completed a total of 1000 hours of study and practice.
- Bodywork for Wellbeing Practitioners includes all practitioners who have completed one year of training and practice.
