Professional and Student
Insured members (Professional & Student) may apply to Balens to buy insurance cover for other therapies which they practise, at a discounted rate. The current rate is £24 for multiple therapies. This comes under Balens’ multi-therapy policy. Balens will ask to see a certificate of qualification. This does not apply for non-invasive therapies such as Massage, Aromatherapy etc. For high-risk therapies (such as Acupuncture and Cupping) members should contact the Affinities Department at Balens via [email protected] to arrange appropriate levels of cover.
Bodywork for Wellbeing Students
Students who have completed their school’s 1-year Acupressure/Bodywork for Wellbeing Certificate (different schools use different certificate titles) must apply to Balens directly to arrange professional-level insurance cover for Acupressure/Bodywork for Wellbeing under Balens’ multi-therapy policy. Their student insurance for Shiatsu under the block policy does not cover them for the professional practice of Acupressure. This cover is available at a discounted rate (currently £24). Balens will ask to see a certificate as proof of qualification. Members should follow this link: https://secure.balens.co.uk/schemenewbusiness/SHS0125/S199/default.aspx?h=0x228df5e2 to arrange cover.
Students who do not continue into Year 2 may remain members of the Society in the membership category “Bodywork for Wellbeing Practitioner”. They should join, or upgrade from Student membership to Bodywork for Wellbeing Practitioner. Professional-level insurance for Acupressure/Bodywork for Wellbeing is then included in their membership fee.
Students taking a year out from studies between Year 1 and 2, who wish to practise Acupressure/Bodywork for Wellbeing, benefit from continuing their SSUK Student membership as their professional insurance will be at a discounted rate. As such they will continue to receive all the benefits of Society membership.
All eligible graduates of Year 1 certificates from ratified schools may be listed on the Shiatsu Society listing of Bodywork for Wellbeing Practitioners.
