Would you like to:

feel more relaxed and peaceful?

be more in touch with your energy, dynamism and vitality?

be more connected with your emotions?

maintain your health and well-being?

feel more comfortable in your body by releasing pain and tension?

Shiatsu can help in all these ways and more!

In shiatsu, we work with meridians, acupressure points, muscles and joints, to enable your Qi (energy) to come into a dynamic balance. This can help to resolve symptoms and benefit the body, emotions, mind and spirit. It also feels great!

I have been practising shiatsu since 1997, and I am registered with the Shiatsu Society and the CNHC. My background is in academic research (psychotherapy and complementary medicine). I am supportive, caring and creative, and I bring my commitment, experience and curiosity to my practice.

A shiatsu session generally lasts for about an hour, and takes place on a futon mat on the floor. You will remain fully clothed. The treatment will be tailored to meet your needs, and is likely to include massage, stretching and hands-on work to increase the balance and flow of energy (Qi) in the meridians. It doesn’t hurt!

Shiatsu in maternity care

Fertility. Pregnancy. Birth. Parenthood.

Are you looking for

a relaxing, effective treatment which is safe during pregnancy?

natural alternatives around labour and birth?

a quiet space to connect with yourself and your baby?

Shiatsu can help in all these ways and more during pregnancy!

Baby overdue? Shiatsu has been shown to increase the chance of going into labour spontaneously. (see research at http://www.hawaii.edu/hivandaids/The_Effects_of_Shiatsu_on_Post-term_Pregnancy.pdf).

I have completed a specialist training in using shiatsu during maternity care. Shiatsu is a safe and relaxing treatment which is appropriate throughout pregnancy, as well as in labour and the postnatal period. I will choose suitable techniques for you - these are likely to be particularly gentle during the first three to four months of pregnancy.

During pregnancy shiatsu can help you to connect with yourself and your baby; reduce symptoms associated with pregnancy such as nausea, back pain, SPD; and help you to relax and boost your energy.

If your baby is overdue, shiatsu can help to start labour.

In labour, shiatsu can be used to reduce pain and help you to follow your energy. I have attended two births; I can also teach points and techniques to your birth partner.

In the post-natal period shiatsu can be used to help with breast-feeding; help to release any trauma from the birth process; and support your energy and your connection with your baby. Supporting the mother with shiatsu can be benefical to the baby. You can also learn shiatsu points that may help your baby. I offer clients a home visit as soon after the birth as they would like it.
