Shiatsu Society Core Curriculum for training courses.

The Core Curriculum has been devised as the knowledge and skills necessary for people to be considered competent to join the practitioner Register of the Shiatsu Society.  This is needed so as to give people receiving Shiatsu an assurance that their Registered Practitioner has undergone a certain minimum amount of training and attained an appropriate level of practical skill and theoretical knowledge to inform their Shiatsu treatments.

The Core Curriculum comprises theoretical, practical and practitioner skills components.  The theoretical aspect may be assessed either within the assessment system of a ‘ratified’ school, or by means of an exam organised by the Shiatsu Society.  Verification of practical Shiatsu and practitioner skills are assessed by means of  day assessments organised by the Shiatsu Society.  Most people who attend these assessments have already graduated from a three-year training course at one of the Shiatsu Schools around the country.

Schools ratified for the theory part of the Core Curriculum participate in regular verification that their assessment is at appropriate breadth and depth required by the Core Curriculum, including verification of an appropriate Pass level.  The Shiatsu Society is currently working towards a similar system for practical and practitioner skills.  Most people attend one of the Assessment Days where members of the Shiatsu Society Assessment Panel to assess their practical skill in Shiatsu and their knowledge of practitioner skills.

Members of the Assessment Panel are registered teachers (MRSS(T)'s) with the Shiatsu Society and attend a training day bi-annually in order to remain on the Panel.
