Welcome
Welcome to the Shiatsu Society’s website. I hope that you are beginning to take advantage of the new features, in particular, the discussion forum. This is one of the best ways to get your views across to the Directors and it can also inspire other members to join in the various discussion topics, so please have your say.
The site is going from strength to strength as more people use the internet in many different ways. The number of hits from those looking for practitioners continues to increase along with those enquiring about studying Shiatsu, and the site is one of the first to be seen when searching the web for many aspects of Shiatsu.
Meanwhile the Members’ Area is becoming even more of a hub with an improved layout and a more hands-on site management process. As well as the discussion forum, you will find many resources to help you in your Shiatsu practice – information, downloads, advice and tips. Please feel free to explore it further and if you have any comments pass them on through the forum.
Announcement : Shiatsu Society Online Discussion Area
This is an exciting development and presents an opportunity for all of us
to be able to engage in creative and forward-looking discussion on all issues
that concern as members of the Shiatsu Society and the Shiatsu community.
The discussion area is accessible to all members of the Society click
here or on the link above. You will need to go through a
registration process to access the board that will involve you choosing
a login name and password, please follow the instructions you will find
on the login screen. Only members of the Society will have access to the
discussion area.
I hope that you will engage with this as a new facility that has the potential,
if used wisely, to be a major forum for the growth of the Society and to provide
a voice and meeting place for members.

Do you have a website for your Shiatsu practice?
Value for money website hosting for Shiatsu Society members
Many of you would like to have a website to advertise your practice, but
find the time and cost puts you off. You have to come up with a design,
write the content, buy a domain, find a hosting company, learn how to upload
the files, and, after all that, pay hosting and maintenance fees!
The Shiatsu
Society can help. The Shiatsu Society Directory is a new service offered
by the Shiatsu Society to its members. With this new service members can
run their own websites hosted by the Shiatsu Society. Some of the benefits
are:
- it is much cheaper than other commercial hosting
- the design is done for you, and there is a selection to choose from
- initial content is provided for you
- you don't have to worry about uploading files, and
- you are able to manage the site yourself (or have someone do it for you)
- your website address will be of the form http://yourname.shiatsusociety.org
- you can have an email address of the form yourname@shiatsudirectory.co.uk
- you will benefit from the Shiatsu Society's high search rating
all for a low, low price!

EUROPEAN SHIATSU WEEK
Annually the third week of September. 2010's will be 20th to 26th September.
During the week the UK Shiatsu Society along with many European ones promote Shiatsu and its benefits to the public and media.
Some
ideas for promotions:-
* Leaflet distributions, display of posters in health shops, Boots, libraries,
colleges, surgeries etc.
* Local exhibitions. Get together with other local members.
* Displays / talks in local libraries, old peoples homes, hotels, colleges, bookshops
etc.
* Free or discounted treatments. (The public and media like this one!).
* Ask your school or local support group to hold a joint venture.
* Contact your local media and offer to treat a journalist in return for an article on Shiatsu.
Please do support this event, no matter how small a contribution. We have
nearly 2,000 members so if each of you gave one person a leaflet then
we have reached another 2,000 people.
Come on! support is needed. Please contact
us and tell us your plans so
we can start promoting you to the public and get you some further business
as well as raising the awareness of Shiatsu and its benefits.
2009 Feedback:-
I’ll be running a small event. I work part time at Lancaster University in an office, and have recently obtained a room to practice Shiatsu from. So for 3 lunchtimes during the week, I’ll be doing some free taster sessions promoting Shiatsu and my new room. I’ve got plenty of Shiatsu Society posters and materials from previous events so I was well covered. There was a good selection of staff and students from the University all keen to try Shiatsu and learn more about it. I was particularly pleased to see some of the younger students being very open to complimentary health care, even quite a few Medical students, and Chinese students who had no idea what Shiatsu was! I’ve had a few thank-you emails from people who subsequently felt a lot better, and four people so far have booked a full session as a result of their short treatment. I’ve also been asked to do tasters at a Mental Health day here and at an event for Sports clubs. So I enjoyed it, they enjoyed it, and a lot more people now know what Shiatsu is – mission accomplished ! Martin Knowles

Developing A New Route to joining the Professional Register (MRSS)
2007 saw the alternative route to joining the
Register of Professional Practitioners, whereby Graduates of participating
schools can join a Post Graduate Year (PGY). This Post Graduate Year would take
the place of submitting to one of the ‘MRSS’ assessments that
are held each year. Read more ...
