Annual Congress

ANNUAL CONGRESS 2010

THEME - 'Shiatsu & Chronic Illness'

4pm Friday 8th to 4pm Sunday 10th October 2010
Gaunts House, Wimbourne, Dorset
BH21 4JQ

For those members who have not attended a congress before we can guarantee you a warm welcoming and very entertaining few days.  There will be the chance to participate in 12 different workshops with various teachers, socialise and meet new friends, mentoring, supervision, singing, dancing - a chance to really let your hair down and thoroughly enjoy yourself alongside other like minded people.

What is Congress?

Congress is the beginning of our Shiatsu year, giving inspiration, strength and the opportunity, while away from home, to set goals and learn new skills for the time ahead.  Congress is an event organised by the Society for its members once a year.  There will be workshops in Shiatsu and related topics (for example yoga, T’ai chi chuan), as well as small group discussions, exhibitions showing the most up-to-date activities of the Society, social evenings with singing and dancing, and time to make and renew friendships.  The Directors and administrators will be present to meet you and answer any questions you may have about the Society and the exciting future of Shiatsu.  There will be the opportunity for you to do Shiatsu swaps with other members and we have a shop selling our clothing, leaflets, posters etc so you can save on the p&p costs.  This years Congress will be open to members, non-members and family members.

Who can attend?

Anyone can attend. The more the merrier! All workshops are targeted at all levels of membership from first year students to teachers. Non-members are also very welcome so tell your friends, family and colleagues! Children are welcome but dogs are not allowed on site.

What's Included in the Cost?

The fee you pay is fully inclusive of all accommodation, meals, entertainment, parties, workshops and tea/coffee. Everything except alcohol.

Accommodation

Shared bedrooms dormitory style. Single rooms carry a £20 per weekend supplement, single en-suites £40 extra.

Workshops

Congress delegate numbers grow each year. Eight years ago around 50 members attended Congress but this has grown year on year and now around 150 members attend which is great. However, this causes us problems as we do not have such a choice of venues as they either do not have enough bedrooms, are too costly or do not have a big enough conference room. The workshop leaders have also commented that they are unable to teach members adequately with an audience of 150. Therefore, this year numbers are strictly limited. Futons are not provided so it is advisable to bring your own or a blanket.

Workshop Details

All workshops are aimed at all categories of membership from first year students through to experienced Teachers.  Everyone is welcome!

The shop is also open during breaks and free time - your opportunity to buy leaflets, clothing, posters, books, logos, pens etc without the p&p charges.

Coming alone?  First time at Congress?  Don’t worry.  We will give you your own mentoring buddy upon arrival.

See the Document Downloads page for the timetable and details of workshops.
